The UK’s Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF) is seeking co-filers for a resolution calling for an independent water assessment at Rio Tinto's mine sites. General expressions of interest are being collected until 3 November and requisition forms collected until 1 December. So far, 23 asset owners and assert managers have expressed interest.

Collaboration details

The UK’s Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF) is seeking co-filers.

The resolution calls for independent water impact assessments at the company’s mine sites and stems from concerns LAPFF has had since engaging with Rio Tinto on the company’s social and environmental impact assessments more broadly since 2015.

At the moment, we have 23 asset owners and asset managers globally who have expressed a general interest in co-filing or voting in favour of the resolution. We are now looking to PRI members to see if any of you would be interested in co-filing.

  • We will be collecting general expressions of interest in co-filing through 3 November. For those investors who are interested, we are aiming to send out briefing materials by the beginning of November followed by a webinar around mid-November in case anyone has any further questions.
  • There will also be a further briefing webinar on 16 November at 8am UK time for those investors who would like more information on the resolution before taking a decision about whether or not to co-file.
  • Interested investors will be asked to complete a short requisition form that asks for their fund/investor name and address, their holdings in Rio Tinto, and a signature from the fund/investor chair. The deadline for submitting these forms will be 1 December.

Please do let me know in the meantime if you have any questions. I am happy to respond to emails or take calls on the resolution. Lara Blecher ([email protected])
