Investor Statement for the introduction of comprehensive human rights and environmental due diligence legislation in Switzerland
Ethos Foundation is requesting responsible investors to sign a letter in support of human rights and environmental due diligence legislation in Switzerland. With the adoption of the CSDDD at EU level, the gap between Swiss and EU requirements continues to widen and the statement seeks to align the Swiss provisions with the CSDDD.
Ethos Foundation is requesting responsible investors to sign a letter in support of mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence legislation in Switzerland. With the adoption of the CSDDD (Corporate Sustainabiltiy Due Diligence Directive) in the European Union, the Swiss government has launched a consultation process to extend the current reporting obligations for Swiss companies in terms of scope and requirements. While companies in scope need to submit a sustainability report to their shareholders, the requirements are still vague. In parallel, the government currently assesses the impacts of the CSDDD on Swiss companies by mandating a study in autumn 2024. For responsible investors, this is an important window of opportunity to call upon the Swiss government to extend companies responsibilities and to adopt mandatory comprehensive human rights and environmental due diligence legislation in line with the EU CSDDD.
The statement will be published and is scheduled to be delivered to the Swiss government and members of parliament in Q4 2024.
