Human Rights and Forced Labor Engagement with General Mills

5 members

Investor letter on forced labor, child labor, and unsafe working conditions in sugar supply chain in Maharashtra. We are addressing serious human rights violations and supply chain risks in the companies’ sugar supply chains. Reports have revealed forced labor, child labor, and unsafe working conditions, particularly impacting women and children.

Collaboration details

Reports have revealed forced labor, child labor, and unsafe working conditions, particularly impacting women and children in the sugar supply chains of General Mills. While both companies have made some commitments to human rights, these efforts haven’t sufficiently mitigated the systemic risks within their supply chain. This engagement asks them to address the allegations in the reports, to conduct a comprehensive supply chain risk assessment, and well as clarify what the level of board oversight on the implementation of the human rights initiatives in place.

We are inviting investors to sign on to the letters to both companies. Please see the attachments to this collaboration.

If you are interested in supporting the engagement, please reach out to Cynthia Ngarambe, Manager, Investment Stewardship - UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust ([email protected]).
