Waste & Pollution Engagement – Mismanagement of Manure Drives Pollution and Biodiversity Risk l Phase 2 l FAIRR

1 member

FAIRR invites PRI signatories to join Phase 2 of its collaborative engagement asking intensive pork and poultry producers to put in place thorough risk assessments on the biodiversity and water quality risks created by their manure and slaughter waste and to create action plans to mitigate risks and capture circular fertiliser opportunities.

Collaboration details

We are seeking investor signatories for FAIRR’s biodiversity engagement on waste and pollution. A key driver of biodiversity loss has been shown to be the excessive or inappropriate use of manure as fertiliser in areas of concentrated livestock production. In its second year, this engagement will continue to explore the biodiversity risks arising from manure and animal waste management in the meat sector, encouraging companies to conduct thorough risk assessments, implement nutrient management strategies covering their own, upstream, and downstream operations, and explore the opportunities of nutrient circularity.
